My Take on the Wharton Online FP&A Certificate

The Certificate of FP&A from Wharton Online is a very strong program. I am fortunate to be an instructor and to be friends with Christian Wattig, the program director. What I like about the program is the practical, hands-on nature of the material. The combination of Wharton Online's academic rigor and Wall Street Prep's practical training creates an excellent training program in the FP&A education space.

This is an excellent option if you want a holistic program with a great name and network. It is not the most cost-effective option; other programs will cover material similar to that of the Wharton program. I advise that if you are looking for a great name, network, and training program—not a credential—and the cost is not an issue, then you should strongly consider this program.

Bottom Line: This program is worth considering if you value Ivy League prestige, cohort-based learning with weekly office hours, and serious networking opportunities. It is the premium option among FP&A programs. Use code THEFPAGUY300 to save $300.

Things to Remember

No program is perfect. Here are the areas to keep in mind as you evaluate this program:

  • More live instruction within the program would improve the overall experience.

  • Does not require continuing education to maintain the certificate, which could limit its perceived long-term value.
  • The program is the most costly of the major FP&A programs available today.

Who Should Enroll?

✅ Perfect Fit If You:

  • Value Wharton Online brand recognition
  • Want cohort-based learning with peers
  • Can commit 8–12 hours weekly for 8 weeks
  • Seek prestigious credentials for career advancement
  • Want weekly office hours with program staff
  • Cost is not the primary concern

❌ Consider Alternatives If You:

  • Need maximum flexibility (consider CFI)
  • Have a very tight budget—other programs cover similar material at a lower price
  • Can't commit to the cohort schedule
  • Prefer completely self-paced learning
  • Want a formal credentialed certification (consider FPAC)

Time Commitment Reality Check

The program estimates 8–10 hours per week, but here's the reality: most participants report needing about 12 hours per week to fully engage with materials and complete assignments.

Pro Tip: Block out 12 hours weekly for the full 8 weeks. The cohort-based format with weekly office hours provides maximum value when you actively participate. This intensive approach leads to better retention and networking.
