Lookup Functions

Excel Contains many different functions and methos for looking up and relating data together. The Ten methods included in this guide are:

  1. VLOOKUP

  2. HLOOKUP

  3. Index-Match-Match

  4. Offset-Match-Match

  5. LOOKUP

  6. DGET

  7. XLOOKUP

  8. Table Relationships in Excel

  9. Power Query

  10. Power Pivot Table Relationships

The first seven items in the guide are Excel functions and the last three are non-function methods for relating data together.

I recommend anyone wanting to really learn Excel take the time to learn the different methods for lookup and relating data together in Excel. This will open up many advanced concepts and tools for conducting deep analysis and creating beautiful dashboards and data models with tools such as Power Query, Power Pivot and Power BI.

Over the coming weeks I will provide a blog on each of the different methods and provide some of the best resources for learning each of these concepts on the web. We will start with VLOOKUP.

3. The third and final video in this blog is by Mike Girvin at Excel is Fun and is a comprehensive guide with over 1 hour of instruction and training on the VLOOKUP function.
